Castles in Spain: The San Francisco Bay Guardian describes the music as “Bombay Zeppelin. “Imagine Jimmy Page and Robert Plant riding through the desert, kicking up dust and camel shit at some Cairo bazaar, where Chrissie Hynde is sitting in with Jane’s Addiction, playing Black Sabbath and middle-eastern folk music.”

The Homobiles: The Bay’s mainstay queer party punk supergroup” (East Bay Express) — combine a raw and unapologetic punk sound, an anti-fascist and anti-racist spirit, and a touch of irreverent fun.
Songs about cars and babes, crimes and change, ballot measures and bathhouses.
In their latest single, “Which Side Are You On?,” SF queer punk supergroup The Homobiles have a question for the police. Especially “the good ones.” Written after a queer, trans friend joined the police force, the message is clear: you may try to change the system, but the system will certainly change you.
Their current lineup features Lynn Breedlove (ex-Tribe 8, he/him) on lead vocals, Fureigh (Middle-Aged Queers, ex-The Shondes, they/them) on guitar and vocals, and powerhouse Blair Switch (she/her) on bass.
The Homobiles have been featured at the New York Live Arts Festival (curated by Mx. Justin Vivian Bond), opened for queercore legends Pansy Division and Team Dresch, and been the subjects of a documentary (“Spacecars and Babes,” filmed in Austin during their spring 2017 tour). The anti-fascist music video for their song “Homo Safe” has screened at film festivals around the world.
Skip The Needle: An Oakland-based queer female quartet made up of Bay Area superstars; Vicki Randle, Shelley Doty, Kofy Brown and Katie Cash who fashion punk, funk and soul influenced rock they like to call black dyke rock. As the name implies, they are musically diverse and bring a biting, socially conscious message, delivered with radical joy. Formed in 2014, Skip The Needle has released two full-length albums and an EP – Octavia Of Earth, Volume 2, inspired by black feminist icon Octavia E. Butler, released by Soulectric – A division of Little Village Foundation and digitally released by Side Hustle Records in July of 2024. They are honored to have received the Local Sirens Residency grant from Women’s Audio Mission, writing and producing their upcoming EP.
Though playfulness and exuberance are an integral part of Skip The Needle’s performances, reflections on issues of justice and equity, especially black, queer and women’s rights are the driving force behind much of their collective writing. The songs on Wake Up Wake Up Wake Up reflect the idea that socially conscious music can edify, inspire and rejuvenate. Four distinctly different voices and musical styles coming together as one spawned the name Skip The Needle and their messages of hope and inspiration, delivered with driving, infectious funk, rock and soul.
